At London Home Tutors we specialise in one to one tuition for London school children.  We will arrange for a specialist teacher to visit your home once or twice a week to teach your child or arrange online lessons with one of  our experts.  By special arrangement your child can have their lessons at another venue, for example their school, a tutor’s home or at a local library.  You may prefer this if your home is noisy due to younger siblings or your work arrangements do not allow you to be at home.

We will recommend you an experienced and well qualified tutor with whom we have an ongoing relationship.  All out tutors are DBS checked.  The minimum requirements for our tutors are a good, relevant degree, substantial teaching experience in their subject and excellent references.

There are many good reasons parents invest in private tuition for their children. Here are some reasons that our families’ mention to us time and time again: One-to-one attention Because private tuition is one-to-one, children are able to focus better and are taught in a way that specifically meets their own unique needs. At school, you don’t have a choice about your teachers, but we match the child and the tutor carefully. This means pupils have a mentor who teaches in the most effective manner for their learning styles. Extra review Often in school there is only a limited time to review a child’s work and understanding. That may not always be enough. Having a private tutor gives students an extra chance to review the areas in which they may be struggling. Homework help With a tutor, pupils enjoy having a guide who can make the topics that they’re covering for homework less stressful, less of a chore and more of an effective learning experience. Exam success For students working towards exams, private tuition helps them to master concepts and develop better study skills in preparation for their assessments. Tutors give them the opportunity to practice more questions and receive more feedback, all leading to better performance on the day. If you have entry for particular school in mind, please let us know and we will try to find you a tutor who knows the exam and has a track record of getting children in. The stress of selective entrance exams on the family as a whole and the pressure on the child in particular, will reduce once a family feels they are in the capable hands of an experienced tutor with a plan. Confidence Because tutors develop a more personal relationship with their students, they are able to see and cultivate the potential within them. This is all too easy for teachers in school to miss, especially if a child is well-behaved, of average intelligence or has special educational needs. Sometimes students may not be willing to ask questions in a large class, but working with a private tutor gives them more freedom to speak out. Modern life Parents with busy schedules don’t always have time to help their children after school with homework. Having a private tutor takes the pressure off and means precious family time can be for fun and relaxation. Stronger drive to succeed Because private tuition means the instructor is really focused on the success of the student, students are far more likely to be motivated to perform to the very best of their ability.

Eighty percent of our tutors are qualified teachers teaching in London schools or recently retired from London schools.  Sixty percent of our tutors are over the age of forty. We have many senior teachers, retired Heads of Departments and Examiners on our books. All our tutors have a degree in their chosen field and teaching experience.

We tutor children from the age of six.

We can combine tuition for Science and Maths up to GCSE level. Individual tutors will be required to teach all other subjects.

We do offer online lessons to support our families when they are travelling away from home so that regular lessons are not disrupted.  Online lessons also enable us to offer our expert teachers to families outside of London.

Tuition takes place at your home under your supervision, in a suitable place for lessons, so all parties are at ease. Most of our lessons take place after school weekdays or at weekends. Some tutors are available during the day, please ask if this is something you are interested in. If you have nowhere suitable to study at home and want to go to a tutor’s house for lessons please ask and we will normally be able to accommodate you. Lessons can also take place online if preferable.

Please contact your tutor to rearrange your appointment. Your tutor’s contact details will be included in your introductory pack. Please give your tutor 48 hours’ notice of any cancellation.

We charge new pupils a one-off family registration fee of £50. You pay this after we introduce you to a tutor and lessons begin. Registered families pay nothing for further tutor introductions.
